(While it is true that there are some animal activists who take things way too far, and need to be prosecuted, peaceful demonstration and freedom of speech is not in the league of terrorism. If this bill is passed as is, there will be no way to defend the animals against abuse. It is an all inclusive bill, making no distinction between violent and peaceful activisim. There will be no one to speak for those who have no voice)

H.R. 4239, the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) is the most dangerous bill facing animal rights/protection advocates. All activists need to contact their Representative or else this bill will fly through the House. PLEASE ACT TODAY!

The AETA will forever hurt all activities pertaining to helping animals and it is being cosponsored and pushed by our representatives (two New Jersey representatives have co-sponsored this bill--Andrews and Ferguson!)

Senator Diane Feinstein (CA) and Senator James Inhofe (OK) introduced this dangerous legislation and on September 29, 2006, the AETA passed the United States Senate by unanimous consent. It is important that you know who in our government is supporting such dangerous legislation. The AETA is expected to go to the House of Representatives for a vote by the end of this year. Please see list of House of Representatives who have already signed on to support the AETA.

It is URGENT that you contact your federal representative and urge him/her to OPPOSE the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (HR 4239). If the AETA becomes law, activities pursued by all animal rights organizations will be illegal, with activists and organizations being prosecuted, labeled as terrorists and facing federal prison time.

Visit United States House of Representatives, 109th Congress, 2nd Session: Homepage to learn who your representative is. If you have Andrews or Ferguson as your Representative, please let them know what you think about this bill and ask them to WITHDRAW as a co-sponsor. All others should urge their Representative to vote NO on HR4239.

Below are a few talking points about the bill, but please visit No AETA - Main to learn more and educate yourself about this dangerous bill.

1. AETA needs hearings to ensure fair and adequate debate.
2. Laws should be fairly applied to all citizens without singling out animal advocates.
3. Advocating for animal protection should not be equated with terrorism.
4. More than 100 animal protection and social justice organizations oppose this act.

IT IS URGENT THAT YOU ACT NOW TO PREVENT THIS UNCONSTITUTIONAL NIGHTMARE FROM BECOMING LAW!

here is a response from a friend who is well acquainted with animal abuse

"And here’s the link you need to send along with that – puppymill awareness day - go in the site and read about some of the terribly sad stories about people who bought from puppy mills. Yet if AETA goes through, they will all be defenseless. "

My letter....

Dear Mr. Ferguson

An important bill, H.R. 4239, is in the House. This is a very dangerous bill, and while we don't want people blowing up corporate offices or terrorizing their employees for animal testing, this bill will also make it a crime for the many caring people that wish to peacefully protest the horrific cruelty going on behind closed doors, not just in labs, but in puppy mills, for example, who supply the often sick puppies born from abused dogs in the mills.

As your constituent, I urge you to withdraw all support from this bill -help recrafting it if necessary to punish the truly violent - but without our American right to free speech - there will be no one to speak for the animals who suffer in silence.

Please, I urge you, withdraw your support. Standing up for abused animals is not terrorism, but this bill will encourage it AGAINST those who try to defend the voiceless.

Look at the photos on this web site - scroll down just a little - is this how our family pets should be treated? I am trusting in your compassion to see what's there and not just an agenda against the handful of people that have really gone too far - Puppymill Awareness Day

Thank you,

Please contact your representatives about this bill. If it is passed, it will surely be throwing babies out with the wash water. It needs to be redesigned at the very least. Jackee
