Joe, do you remember what year this happened? I remember seeing it back in the days of TNN and American Sports Cavalcade. What amazed me was the end of the track appeared to just have a guardrail. No net, no sand, nothing but the guardrail. That's some real "plan for the worst" thinking right there. NOT!

Mark it was 1990
 
What gets me is the P.R.O. Drivers and NHRA didn't go into freak mode over the shutdown then, it had to take getting a driver killed to make changes, go figure!:confused:
 
Holy **** William! I can't remember the last time I saw the chute just fall off like that? However that shutdown looked far safer than E-town's that's for sure...

Yeah I wasnt at that race so never saw it , but I am sure someone in that team was going woops when it happened
 
Steve Evans may have been the most integral part of the growth of the NHRA through the 80s..
He was the absolute BEST in the business, and even today, it's a loooooonnng way to second place..
