Your other hobbies......besides racing (1 Viewer)

I go on 4 or 5 cruises a year, Mexican Riviera is my fave. The deep sea fishing is top notch and the women drive me nuts. Shameless Plug: WPT Cruises - Poker Tournaments

I make my own beer (mostly pilsners and lagers, but I am gonna dabble in a maibock real soon) and wine (I have my own Cabarenet Sauvignon and Shiraz vines in my backyard, they do surprisingly well in Vegas). I even bought some stuff from Tony Shoe's homebrew website. I am also studying up on making my own Bourbon (I am from Kentucky after all) but I am afraid if I put together a still the cops will think I am running a meth lab. Besides, I have to store the stuff for 7 or 8 years before consuming.

I love to fish and hunt ... don't get to hunt near as much as I would like to, but if I don't get to wet a line at least once every 3 weeks or so I get the shakes real bad. Mostly bass fishing in Lake Mead/Mojave/Havasu and Southern Utah ... but I do get to Mazatlan, Mexico a few times a year for the salty stuff.

I love to play poker, mostly Texas Hold 'Em but I have been known to play Omaha. I also like to bet on the ponies occasionally on big race days. I usually go to the Derby (didn't make it this year) but I get to Santa Anita and Del Mar a few times each year. I also like to play craps, but I try to limit that to when friends are in town in Vegas (paging Tom Burgess). I avoid all other casino games as the house edge is too great.

I read a lot, since I spend about 10 hours a week on planes. I am a history buff, mostly read American history or ancient history. I am working in Boston this week, and it is KILLING me not to be at the Old North Church or Bunker Hill or Boston Common or the USS Constitution.

I LOVE University of Kentucky basketball. I make a pilgrimmage once a year to Rupp Arena to see the Cats play. I am one of those impossible to please fans ... Final 4s are our birthright I tells ya. An extension of that is my love for the NCAA tournament, IMHO it is the purist championship decider in all of sports.

I like the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, but I am not as passionate as I used to be.

I love going to drag races (duh). Looks like I will hit 5 National Events this year.

The Indy 500 used to be a big deal in my world, and now that open wheel is unified, I may actually start paying attention to it again.

I also have an appreciation for good cigars. Cohiba Ziglo Vs and Esplendidos are my faves.

I miss living/hangin' with cigar people. It's just not fun alone....2 of the last 3 significant others were cigar guys and I miss THAT part of the 2. :)

My main hobby right now is getting my 6 year old daughter Taylor comfortable playing the "hot corner" on her t-ball team. The girl doesn`t quite understand that she`s got to play in the field for half the inning....she just wants to hit.
I don`t get the chance to golf like I did when I was single, but I still manage to play about twice a month. The wife was a pretty fair tennis player in her day so I`ve been swatting the tennis ball around with her a fair amount the last few years. Tennis is kind of like basketball with me now....I can still make the shots, I just can`t move anymore!
This time of year I spend most evenings upstairs cursing my beloved Yankees on satellite.
Spend Sundays in the fall doing the same thing with the Dolphins.
We still enjoy going out with friends on Saturday nights...but now it`s just a few drinks, dinner and maybe a movie. Saturday nights sure ain`t what they used to be. Well, except when we`re at the drags!
We travel quite a bit too. This year I/we will make 6 National Events, the Oregon Coast, Sun Valley, Yankees/Ms in Seattle and Dolphins/Cards down in Phoenix.
I`ve always been a big reader, mainly bios. Just finished one on 'Pistol Pete' Maravich and have started the new Chris Farley book. Was/am a big fan of Stephen Ambrose....I`ll read anything on WWII.
Enjoy time in the yard (I keep up the lawn, the wife does the garden).
Try not to do alot of TV watching but I`m hooked on Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs, Big Love, The Office, Law and Order (and SVU), and Friday Night Lights.

Between school, work, and racing, I had a hard time figuring out what my hobbies were.

I like to take pictures and my boyfriend loves to sightsee and travel around and I've dated him going on two years and I've seen more of New Mexico with him than I ever did before. Mostly because when we were going through New Mexico, it was driving all night and to a race.

We both like history and since he's a military brat and a SSgt in the Air Force, we've gone to different bases and seen the monuments and aircrafts.

I do crossword puzzles a lot and volunteer as much as possible at St. Vincents, and do a lot of stuff with the church and since my Dad, brother, and boyfriend are in the Knights of Columbus, somehow I get wrapped up in doing stuff with them.

Used to do a lot of riding on my Ninja till I sold it, and I sure miss it!

You would like Big Love ... could be about any of your neighbors up there in Idaho. :D

Well ... now that I think about it ... Warren Jeffs was nabbed in Vegas .....

This thread is a great read in itself! Thanks for the insights & keep them coming.

For me, I have the race cars and love anything in the shops but I also have some boats. Biesemeyer Flat, Hallett Flat and a Schiada 21' River Cruiser (Twin Turbo BBC)
The whole family water skis, snow skis, all us boys play golf and have played about every sport there is. I've had seven knee surgeries after 25 years of league basketball and Wednesday racquetball so now I ride bikes a couple days a week. Mama and I ride tomorrow morning and the boys in the evenings. (they nearly kill me)
I too, was a drummer and singer in a band for years but the lifestyle didn't work with my religious choice so I stuck with Church. Now, I sit and play piano and sing to my wife because she can stand it. Nobody else gathers for it? Go figure. This should tell you a lot about her. All the kids are musically talented. Buzzz has a complete recording studio and plays quite often.
I also read daily but only scriptures (besides the Mater, of course.) I'm funny that way.
I really love my work more every year. Buzzz, Paul and I are land brokers.
Service is very important to me. I'm president of two homeowners association where I mandate no nasty-grams. We speak to our homeowners like friends-not enemies. I also have a few Church jobs that take a good bit of time.
Keeping up with my wife takes a lot. She's just designed a new custom home that should be ready to submit for permits shortly. That will mostly be her baby, I just get to contribute where I can. It should be awesome! You're all invited over anytime.
I have way too many really fun toys.
Most importantly, I'm a dad of six and husband of 39 years and Granka to a bunch of youngsters. That's what I want to be known for. My life will be complete if my family has my headstone read "He wasn't too bad."

I built myself a 20' long trailer with a BIG rotisserie cooker along with all the necessities including the kitchen sink. I love traveling around the country doing BBQ contest Ain't nothing better than BBQ,Beer,Rock n Roll and Pretty Women:cool:

Seems like I pretty much live at the airport. I spend alot of time at my job, as we probably all do. But for hobbies, it depends what part of the year. The general ones I'd say are anything to do with flying/airplanes/heli's/spacecraft. Believe it or not, surfing the internet is right up there too. In summer it's music (playing, collecting, archiving cassettes & LP's to CD), being with family, grilling, trying to improve my potato launcher (in the middle of a strict HOA-controlled subdivision!), drinking beer.
The other big part of me besides flying & NHRA fan is hockey. I am an NCAA Division I Off Ice Official at the University of Denver. So in winter when college hockey is up and running, on weekends I'm either working at Pioneer home games (Penalty Box, Goal Judge, Clock or video replay) or busy tracking games live on the internet, ESPN-U, radio, etc.

In the summer I try to get out on my motorcycle a lot, Usually eight to ten thousand miles per year.
Take in several car shows.
Get out to the oval tracks to watch the Supermodifieds.
In the winter if we get a lot of snow I try to go snowmobileing as often as possible. If we get little snow we all get together and drag race the snowmobiles on the ice.

..........The month of September is my favorite month because that is Elk hunting time, to bring down an 800 pound Elk with a bow and arrow at 50 yards is quite an accomplisment, and then there is managing my new internet business YTB Travel Network - Rollemup Travel.....cruising on my new Harley-Davidson is going to be a blast also :cool:

Chris, my wife and I both love watching Deadliest Catch. Those guys are nuts. Also, the show that comes on after that called The Alaska Experiment. Its a survival show. You should watch it as well. Pam and I are hooked on it.

Hay, horses, cows, bulls, rodeo, being single!!

Steve, how exactly are you involved in the rodeo? I've been around them my whole life as well. My family used to raise show animals (steers, heifers, hogs, lambs, goats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, etc)

Justin, yeah they are! I think I told you I used to gilnet for sockeye salmon in the Bering Sea for 12 summers from `85-97. A lot of those boats that crab fish in the winter stay up there and are tenders for salmon (the salmon boats tie up to them and offload their catch once a day). I can clearly remember delivering to the Cornelia Marie...don`t remember Phil though. For those guys, summer was like a vacation for them compared to what they went thru during crab season. I had opportunities to crab and the answer was always the same....HELL NO!!!

I knew a guy who went on those Open sea Catches, he told me some stories of how Octopie would constantly try to steal the crabs, or whatever was in the nets. They could fit through a 3" hole in the net.

I saw my 1st Super Modified race last year in Oswego,NY-That was awesome!
We were sitting near turn 1 and it was unbelievable!

Well I used to hunt and fish but my bad back and knees keep me from climbing the mountains.

I like doing 3D graphics and I recently started getting deeper into 3D animation. If any of you get a chance, please check-out the Animations section on my web site, I will gladly welcome feedback.

It's almost time for yellowtail and soon after albacore!!!
Fishing season on the left coast is coming soon, time to split my $$$$ between racing and fishing!

Actually, I love time spent on the ocean, catching fish is a bonus, there is nothing like watching the sun go down over the pacific, sitting on the stern of a boat, and then getting rocked to sleep after a good dinner!!

I also like to go bowling and spend time with my wife and kids, anyone who has seen me at the track, will have seen my wife too, we've been together for 25 years, 21 married, being a "machine shop widow", she has put up with a lot!!!

And oh yeah, I love machining, it's really cool to make something and then watch it go fast!!

I knew a guy who went on those Open sea Catches,

Cool; although not quite as glorious as Deadliest Catch, I do have a cousin who's a crewmember aboard the Edwin H. Gott, a 1000-footer cargo boat out of the upper penninsula which hauls on the great lakes. You can imagine, he's got some wild stories. They run practically all year long, hauling salt, grain, coal, raw copper, iron pellets.... on trips as long as like from Chicago to Quebec and everywhere in between.
