Prayers Please for Angie Smith (2 Viewers)

That just means the hospital was not cleared to release information to the NHRA.
Or, maybe NHRA was cleared to learn of any updates, with the condition being they are not to release it to the media.
It's certainly nothing nefarious on NHRA's part.
The patient has total control of what can and cannot be released, and to whom it is permitted.
Would you like to buy a bridge?

I'm a little confused about something. While watching the race last night, they showed the accident and Brian Lohnes said the bike stopped against the wall and was still idleing. I thought those bikes had kill switches tethered to the rider that would turn off the engine if a rider took a spill.

Has there been any serious injuries in PSM? This seems to me as the worst one. And that would be a miracle considering when the rider
gets separated from the bike the only protection is what they have on, no belt or cage to protect.

Facebook post from Matt Smith Racing

First, thank you so much to Tony Stewart, Leah Pruett, Matt Hagan ,and David Hagan for arranging to have our Angie Smith Racing flown home on their private jet. She's already home and resting comfortably.
Second, if anyone is sticking back this weekend running the St. Louis divisional and can go check on Angie's bike, we'd greatly appreciate it...if we can figure out where it's actually located.
Just to let everyone know, NHRA confiscated Angie's bike after the wreck as they do with all racecars/bikes after accidents. Since then, we've been told three different times per the NHRA tech department that we've done everything they've asked for... including pulling data out of the bike and getting release papers from the hospital. We were happy to do all of this and we were told the bike would be released back to us and they still have yet to release the bike back to us.
Now, we don't know where the bike is at because it's been "taken off property" and we've got a big problem with that. No time have I ever known NHRA keeping anything more than a day after a wreck and why they would want to keep Angie's bike after a wreck is puzzling to me. A Pro Mod crashed yesterday and it was released to the team last night.
If anyone can help us locate this bike...we've asked NHRA for reasoning and all they have said is "legal" with no other explanations beyond that.
I have tried calling the president of the NHRA, Glen Cromwell, and I have received no return phone call. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I was told we could get the bike after POMONA. This is not the time to confiscate bikes for long periods of time when we are in the heat of a championship battle and we could very well use the salvageable parts from the crash for our bikes. Parts alone are hard to get quickly right now. My wife is in a lot of pain right now and this is just adding to it.

by the member track officials."

This is from the NHRA rulebook, section 1 pages 17 & 18. I think it's silly they don't have a time limit on keeping the bike, but I unfortunately don't make the rules😂

I agree with the rules. NHRA could atleast tell him where his bike is and for how long.

Am I reading that rulebook excerpt correctly? NHRA retains the right to retain, temporarily or permanently, or destroy, vehicles or parts belonging to a participant in the event of an accident, for the purposes of inspection OR ANY OTHER PURPOSE? And NHRA bears ZERO responsibility for loss or damage of the retained property? There has to be some clarification I'm not seeing.

If taken literally, in theory someone who doesn't like a fellow competitor could falsely tip off NHRA to a rules infraction - example, claim they have knowledge that Matt Smith Racing is using nitrous, hidden in the frame rails of their motorcycles. That would be a serious rules infraction so according to the rulebook, what's to stop NHRA from confiscating all 3 bikes and holding them for further inspection - indefinitely? Would they do something like that based on an anonymous tip? No, not likely. But according to those rules, they legally can.

There's ZERO justification in my opinion for keeping Angie's bike for 6 weeks and not even telling Smith Racing where it is. ZERO. That's as $150,000 piece of equipment with presumably many good parts remaining. The cause of that accident, likely due to an accidental overapplication of the front brake (happened to another rider during eliminations; that bike nearly crashed), could have been determined in a day or two. And to refuse to even divulge the bike's whereabouts is beyond the pale and totally beneath the integrity of the NHRA.

Why would they need to keep her bike for 6 weeks to determine what caused the front brake to lock up, Ken? I assume PSM's use carbon fiber brakes and everybody and their dog knows what can happen if applied too harshly. So what am I missing?

somebody please remind me of all the other 'confiscated vehicles' that have been involved in an on-track incident after a race, where the racer has no idea where their property is.
did they take john force's FC last year after his incident with JR at pomona?.....maybe john's front brakes locked up causing the collision

1st: Bravo to whoever's plane took Angie home. Glad to see her in stable condition!
2nd: IMHO, Leah looks even better without all the make-up. She's a natural beauty.
3rd: Kudos to whoever can name where John Haus' picture came from (without Googling)

Funny Story- After Scelzi and John Smith had their crash at BIR, the cars were impounded and brought to one of the back storage buildings and NHRA looked them over. After a couple hours, they brought back all the parts and pieces on flatbeds to each individual pit area left in piles.

I was standing in the Scelzi pits and the crew was going through the parts/pieces. AJ was standing there giving them prices on what to sell the damaged parts for to the fans. They even stripped the cockpit bare and were selling that. "Used Brad Hadman Chassis sold as is" 😄

A crew member would hold up a part, and AJ would just call it out.
This one- "50"
This one- "40"
This one- "200"

This one- "Well... that's not from our car, that must belong to Virgil. (Long pause) What the hell, see if we can get $100 for it, it's ours now!"
