NHRA: Friday Night Pro Qualifying? (1 Viewer)

I am not being negative, but stating a fact about live TV. I have worked enough of these events over the years to see what can happen. Even in night sessions the track conditions can be bad enough to destroy a live telecast. The first Las Vegas race had a very cold night session. There was an October race in Topeka where only one or two T/Fs ever pulled a chute. Joe Amato would not take the track for a night session if the track temperature was below 80 degrees, and we could get it above 50 with the jet driers. This is a difficult sport to broacast live. TV wants things to fit nicely into time slots and there is no way NHRA can promise that. Champ Car went to timed races this year for only one reason...TV. Look what happened Sunday when the CWS went almost an hour long.

Whatever HD-NHRA's solution will be, there has to be some way to ensure that everyone gets at least two reasonable attempts at qualifying.

Rain can always be a challange at any event throughout the year, but the Friday night summer qualifying is just too much like a one shot "Do or Die" situation.

Maybe this will take care of itself if the car counts keep dropping!
