New Points System (1 Viewer)

Does anyone else think the new points system will give another PS team a shot at the title? I think GA would win by a landslide in the old system. Shoe could do the same, however I think the Fuller car is a serious challenger (with or w/o a major sponsor). I will also guess that Capps and Hight will battle for the Championship throughout the year.

Ofcourse its going to give other teams a chance. I hate it and thats the reason but I have to say with Force sucking it up the way he has, it couldnt have started a better year for me.

My thoughts exactly. The slow starters will LOVE it and anyone that steamrolls along early, will HATE it.............

Everybody knows Doug Kalitta is as heavy a hitter as it gets. But after three races, the eight cars above him are all very strong runners. If none of them go into an appreciable stumble between now and Indy, DK could start trampling people and still not make the cut to eight cars after Reading. Lots of races to go, but it could still happen. He's capable of a Schumacher-like run, only this year he'd have nine fewer races to do it in.

I wonder if you will see team members from multi car teams take a dive, to help other team members get into the top eight as long as they are safe in where they are at....

This is why the new points system is horrible.

We will see more diving and the very real possibility that the wrong champion is crowned.

Under these new rules you could win all but the last race and still not be the champ.

I would not want to win a title when I knew the rules had been slanted like they are now. Welfare racing

The petition is still open (check my sig)

not the biggest fan of the new system, but now we've got:

- qualifying points races throughout year for 'special $$ races' for 4 pro categories (that's 4 races within races throughout year)

- indy........ just because it's indy.

- starting this year, indy will play yet another role in determining 'final 8'
in each of 4 pro categories

- will have another race to determine 'final 4' for 4 pro categories
i believe richmond will deliver the 'final 4'

- ultimately the pomona finals to crown champions

that's 8 different 'races' within the year, each with it's fair share
of publicity - now nhra says they want a 'playoff mentality' similar
to many other sports.
IMO think nhra is trying to develop new avenues for sponsor exposure.
This year after indy there will be 32 pro teams that will be 'in the mix';
that's 32 potential sponsors that will receive additional exposure for the
month of september followed by 16 sponsors that will continue to receive
additional exposure for the month of october.
If I was a potential sponsor and my driver was not john force; i think i'd
have a better chance at being a 'top 8/top 4' car annually than a
series champion.
All sponsors hope for a championship, but really aren't they all out for
maximum exposure, a championship only being icing on the cake?
Everyone always says 'without our fans we wouldn't be here'
I would say the fans follow the drivers/cars who wouldn't be there
without the sponsors; sponsors products in turn back to the fans.

the new points do suck for us fans and i'm sure even some owners/drivers,
but all racing has become so big business and big dollar that without
those dollars there's nothing there. Some might still think
it's a sport, but reality says it's entertainment. We all want
drag racing to thrive well into the future; the new points
may be a necessary evil

They should have just picked a name out of a hat to start the season, that will have all the legitimacy as any champ we'll be stuck with this year.

I either hope someone dominates and still wins the championship or someone dominates the season and doesn't win (ideally from a big sponsor team with enough weight to make nhra listen when the complain)

Maybe the NHRA should just draw a name out of the hat for the 8th place, like they do for the Top Fuel shoot out, This is indeed a silly system.
