WORSHAM SITS 9th AFTER ONE DAY

Though the disparity in the atmospheric conditions, between afternoon and evening, was not quite on a par with what was encountered in Chicago two weeks ago, the Friday night "hero session" was in full play here, and Del Worsham was capable of playing in the big boys' neighborhood, posting a 4.796 in his Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Impala, under the lights at historic Raceway Park. The late lap was good enough to place Worsham 9th overnight.

"I don't think we'll have quite the same situation as Chicago, because it's not supposed to be that hot tomorrow," Worsham said. "You never know until you get out here, though, so if the temperature does go up, or even if the sun just beats on the track all day, you'll have a hard time running in the 4.70s. On our lap, it dropped a cylinder really early, and left it out for almost a second before it re-lit and ran on eight. Once it did that, it was running pretty good and sounding good, and it just legged down there. It wasn't spectacular, but it was solid and we should be able to work on tweaking the tune-up tomorrow, depending on what Mother Nature gives us to play with."
