WORSHAM GOES 2-FOR-2 BUT STAYS 9th

To put it in pure and simple terms, Del Worsham put two of the best laps of the day on the board at Raceway Park on this day. His 4.850 during the first session was a thing of beauty, and low E.T. for the session by a wide margin. His 4.911 during the final session, made in the less favorable right lane (where he is apt to end up tomorrow) was an inspiration to his team, and the third-quickest lap in the group. Neither stellar run could make an impact on the Friday night times, however, so Worsham remained 9th on the board and will race Jack Beckman in round one on Sunday.

"We have a good race car right now," Worsham said. "You know, we've been picking away at this thing, trying different approaches, and finding ways to get down the track consistently, and right now I'm pretty happy with where we are. We feel we have a car that can compete tomorrow, and it all comes down to the first round. We'll be racing another fast car, but that's not exactly front page news because every car in the field is fast.

"What we have to do is just keep building on this, and if we can get past round one I'll consider it a success. Anything after that will be whatever it is, but our goal is to always be one of the final eight at each race, by getting out of the first round. If we do that, we'll be in the Countdown field come Indy. Right now, with the way the team has come together and the way the car is running, I feel good. I hope I feel great tomorrow."
