Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, and I could really use some help. I'm planning on going to the fall Vegas races. Going to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday and his stepfather's 60th birthday. It will be my first trip to Vegas. Where are some good places to stay? I don't want to stay too far away from the strip as it will be only my 2nd Nationals event and I want to be at the track as much as possible.

Thanks in advance!
Lynn

If you want to stay on the strip Imperial Palace is a decent hotel. They usually have good rates during the nationals. I have stayed there the last 4 times i went to the nationals.

It will be Halloween. Harrah's has the Halloween party.
Don't worry too much about being away from the strip.

It might almost actually be better as there is ridiculous traffic on LV blvd.
It will be party central! Definitely bring a costume and participate in the fun.

It's gonna be a fun time!

Lynn, you have come to the right place. :)
The girlfriend and i stayed at the Riveria this past april. The rooms were recently re modeled and it was very nice...especially for the price. We will be staying at Bally's in october. Lots of great places to stay. Lots of great things to do.

If you want the room close to the track, there are a couple of hotels close by, on Craig road there is a Holiday Inn Express, and a Hampton, there a few also over by the Airbase, but I'm not familiar with them, the closest Casino to the track that I'd stay at anyway is the Cannery, also on Craig Road, pretty good small Casino in my opinion.

The Four Queens, downtown, usually has great rates and often some high discount specials.

I stayed from Thursday through Monday on Easter weekend [LODRS Div.7 race] for only $123.58!

WAHOOO Lynn! Welcome to the Mater! :D

Glad you are going to help celebrate that birthday. Vegas has loads of great places to stay and even some of the ones off the strip still have free rides to their sister casinos on the strip (such as the Rio and the Orleans.) Shop the deals and even check out Southwest Fun fares as they include the trip and hotel (usually the station casinos.) Often you can find really great deals at places such as Monte Carlo or New York, New York.

Paul is right, the Traffic on the Strip is a Cluster#$@^. But since this is your first trip to Vegas the Strip is where I'm sure you'll end up. JUst remember to take the "Deuce" The Double decker Buses, cost like $3, MUCH Cheaper than a Cab!

If you use google maps, put in lvms, then on the map will be a search nearby feauture, put in hotel or motel and the map will show you exactly the closest places near "the strip", with reviews, location and the phone number to call. as I understand you want to stay near the drag strip, not the las vegas strip, is that correct? (compare pricing on expedia and other travel sites) but remember you cant get a refund if you book using the travel sites, and you can from the actual hotel or motel is something to consider.

Thanks, everybody for your help. We are really exciting, hoping things will come together and make this trip happen. There's a lot of info to go through.
Told her we could count on the Maters for help. Especially on Vegas. ;)

Also, if you do wind up staying on the LV strip, grab a map and look for the back way. Industrual (which btw is where In & Out is located at Tropicana) is a great way to avoid a lot of traffic and you can use the cross roads (Tropicana, Flamingo, Maryland Pkwy & Sahara to name larger ones) to access back entries of many of the hotels.

You better MAKE this happen! Call me and i will fill you on the inside info on how to plan your trip!

When you said that you don't want to stay too far from the Strip I have taken you to mean the track. If that is the case you may want to look into the Aliante Station Hotel and Casino. It is a very new locals casino I the 215 Beltway less than 10 miles from the track. It is where NHRA is now putting up its workers. Since 215 is the first exit South of the track you do not have to fight the I-15 construction problems. Besides, if you want to gamble you are better off at a locals place than on the strip. On second thought, you will pay more of my taxes if you play on the strip.

place to stay at in Vegas
Ok everyone a good place to stay at in Vegas is the Eastside Cannery ,off of boulder Highway 20 minutes from the track . You do not have to get on the freeway (which is always under construction) to get there . This is a brand new Hotel, is next to sams town . the rooms are great the food is great and the place does not smell LOL .

The rates right now are $29 per night during the week and the rates go to $59 during the weekend .
You leave the race track out the back way on Las Vegas Blvd , then turn left on Nellis road and go until you get to boulder highway and then turn left and there is The Eastside Cannery (20 to 25 minutes at most)

Ask for Brenda to wait on you for breakfast as she is awesome ,heck she remebers what we ordered everyday is a very nice person.

Call Clay who is the sales manager and mention my name for any special needs you may need . She is a very efficient person who takes care of her customers . the Phone number there is 1-866-999-4899. heck i want all racers to stay there we can take over the hotel during the races and have some fun . ask Phil Mandella who won a bunch of money there for sure
