Tire shake, smoke slow Millican (1 Viewer)

Pomona, Thursday: Unusually hot weather for November -- even in Southern California -- caused Top Fuel dragsters to lose traction early in Thursday's first qualifying run for Sunday's NHRA season finale, the Auto Club Finals.

And the Clay Millican-driven Nitro Fish/Hope4Sudan/Lend America dragster was among them. "We got the tires loose and they shook and smoked," Millican said, "and there's nothing else to do now but prepare for tomorrow."

Among those also fighting traction problems were Tony Schumacher, who has already clinched his fifth consecutive championship, along with top 10 members Larry Dixon, Antron Brown and Cory McClenathan.

One qualifying lap is scheduled Friday with two more on Saturday to set the 16-car line-up for eliminations.

Millican's team is hosting Joe Byrd, a two-time AMA ATV national motocross champion. "This is his first time at a drag race," added Millican.
