PHOENIX - Friday Schedule Update - Cold and Wet

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The 35th annual Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park at Phoenix, AZ

The weather has once again taken away our planned 8:30 AM start time for Sportsman activities.

It is still just 41 degrees here and, while track drying has been in progress for some time, showers have returned and the track is completely wet again. The forecast for today is not promising.

Check back from time to time for updates.

It is dry now but very windy and very cold......radar looks alright but with no sun I dont think they are going to get the track dried before the afternoon showers hit

Some Sunshine Through The Clouds

Track drying is going well and the radar is promising for a while. The air temperature is now up to 51 degrees with 65% humidity.

The "official" estimate just put out on the PA is that "It will be a while" before activities begin.

The grounds here are absolutely soaked and some of the Sportsman races are having problems getting their cars out of the trailers and ready to race.

Check back from time to time for updates.

David, on the actual track - track, shut down area, sand trap? MAGIC DRY
Poor Sportsman racers in their pit mudhole - need lots and lots of MAGIC DRY.

They had one of the zambonies drying to suck up a lot of standing water in the pro stock pits......I heard a good chunk of the sportsman pits were flooded to the point cars couldn't be unloaded

Track drying has mostly completed, except of a difficult patch of water on the track near the sand trap. The NHRA Safety Safari has been focusing their efforts on this area for some time now.

It was just announced that we will be starting off with Funny Car at 2:30 pm, if conditions continue to improve.
The air temperature is now up to 56 degrees with 50% humidity.
The sun keeps ducking in and out behind dark clouds, so future weather is still "Iffy".

Check back from time to time for updates.<p>

I'm in Tempe right now and we had a good little deluge about 30 minutes ago...looks like it's starting to lighten up by where Firebird's at.

It’s starting to sprinkle right now as they are starting to get the drivers in the cars. Arghhh

The sun is out now and it looks like no clouds for a little bit anyway doing the spray again now. Hopefully we can get at least one in

Looks pretty dark outside my office in Tempe...looks like it's headed for the track. Might be a total wash out for the day

Both Kalitta cars are opting not to run this session. They were in the lanes but went back to the pits.
