NHRA's Greatest Races Update (1 Viewer)

The two episodes of the NHRA's Greatest Races on the WAZKAL app are #1: The 1999 Winston No Bull Showdown in Bristol. That was the first of two Top Fuel vs Funny Car events held there and if you never got a chance to see the Showdown, it's definitely worth watching. #2 is the 2006 World Finals, with Tony Schumacher doing the impossible in the final round to win the 2006 title, making what is called to this day, "The Run". In case you're not familiar with the series, I wrote and produced it in 2011 and it was aired on Fox Sports 1, with a shorter Season 2 airing on Velocity. Using the archival library at the NHRA, we had access to the original Diamond P programs with Dave McClelland and Steve Evans dating back 40 years and there are episodes covering the 1978 US Nationals, Kenny Bernstein's first 300MPH run, John and Ashley Force's first Father/Daughter Funny Car final round, Warren Johnson's first 200MPH pass, etc. We plan on adding all of the episodes soon.

The thing I will always remember about the No Bull deal in '99 is Al Hoffman slapping the throttle after staging trying to get Bob Vandergriff to red light. Classic.

"Big Al" was one of the best. Played by his own rules and was the last of his kind. Just one of the great examples of his mental toughness.
