Mike Henry Buries The Competition In Pro Slammers (1 Viewer)

With the official tow vehicle for the weekend the "Kustom Koffin Racing Hurst", Mike Henry buried the competition in 7.0 Pro Slammers. The D&M Racing Team headed to Funny Car Fever at Sacramento Raceway with two goals in mind, win the race and take the points lead. After a runner-up finish at the first event in Bakersfield the team knew they had a chance to make a big move in the points chase. After qualifying 2nd and running a best E.T of 7.17 the team got thrown a curve ball when the track suddenly went away and they began experiencing tire shake. " We tried to step it up because we know we have the horsepower to run in the 6s but the track just wasn't there. We made some four link changes and backed off the power and it finally started to come around" says, driver Mike Henry Jr.

In the second round Henry got the win over Ken Christiansen when he couldn't make the call in his blown Corvette. So it gave the team another shot at getting the car down the track. Then that's where the problems came in as Henry used up every inch of the left lane in the semi's on a 7.31 pass. Henry left the line straight but by the 660' mark he was clearly in trouble and had his hands full trying to keep it off the guard rail. " After that pass I was ready to put the car on the trailer and head home. I wasn't going to risk all my equipment knowing that I'd be stuck in the same lane in the finals because I didn't have lane choice. Then Pat and Lisa Watson told me to just stage the car and launch it, get the points and go home," says Mike Henry.

So, in the final round it would be the teams 1981 Kustom Koffin Apparel sponsored Camaro vs. Mike Doushgounian's #1 qualified blown 1967 Chevy Nova. After the burnouts were complete the Nova couldn't get the car in reverse as the crew chief described. "I told him that my dad was going to put him on the trailer because I knew how hard we worked to get to the finals and when he couldn't back up I knew he was done", says the 14yr old Mike Henry III. This was the break the team needed, so Henry launched the car and ran it to about half track before shutting it off. This team is working hard and I know that if they could get a little financial help there will be great things to come. The teams next event is on May 14-15 at Sacramento Raceway Park.
