BROWN OPENS WITH 4.560 PASS THURSDAY AT POMONA

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2008) – Antron Brown, driver of the David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster, used a solid pass on his debut Top Fuel run to position the Matco Tools rail in the provisional No. 10 qualifying position Thursday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Brown, who made the necessary runs to earn his crossover Top Fuel license during preseason testing on Jan. 26 near Phoenix, used a tune-up from crew chief Lee Beard to drive the blue Matco Tools dragster to a run of 4.560 seconds at 326.16 mph. The Top Fuel rookie was the second Top Fuel driver to make a run down the historic Pomona quarter mile on Thursday. Tony Schumacher paced the field on Thursday with a run of 4.513-seconds. Top Fuel qualifying continues with one session on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (PT).

“I’m on cloud nine,” Brown said. “I’m here at my first Winternationals as a competitor and it felt great to make a clean opening run and get this Matco dragster in the field. It was good to finally line up against a car in the other lane. I also got rid of those jitters about the short shut down here at Pomona. Now we can get down to business and focus on racing and cutting good lights.”

Headquartered in Houston with race operations located in Brownsburg, Ind., David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Rod Fuller and Antron Brown. DPM proudly represents racing partners Matco Tools, Caterpillar, Valvoline, Toyota, Forward Sports Marketing, Goodyear, FRAM, Autolite, Ringer’s Gloves, and Go Fast Sports.
