Well guys, I am just about to head up, but got a call things are all mixed around due to changes BIR has made. A lot of people are not getting their regular spots, including us, and Corky (big american flag). We are now going to be across from Bud Corner.

They have eliminated camping across from where we used to be, becasue theu built a motocross track.

Here is what's going on from what I can tell--

yes paul,
you are correct, there will be a mad scramble for the few closer
non-reserved spots available. the word is the first guy in line
arrived outside the front gates on wed. 8/1. (the tom thumb convenience
store lot was full of campers by saturday from what i was told.)

Another problem, they were letting in people that just showed up this morning at the same time as the people that have been waiting for days.

Looks like the zoo will just be pack full this year........

hang onto your shorts.

I expect plenty of complaints. Probably myself included.

Another change worth mentioning....

When I was there for the Div5 event on memorial weekend I found out "Mom N Pops" bought out the big concession stand located in the pits near the tower. They now own both locations, the original one in the ZOO and the new (old) one in the pits and will be operating both during the Nationals.

Their food is much better than the previous owners had for sale. I remember buying a "breakfast sandwich" one morning years ago when I was VERY hung over, when I put up to my mouth to take the first bite all 3 sausage LINKS rolled out the back side of the bun, onto the ground. I wasn't ready for that..... who puts LINKS on a breakfast sandwich? All I was left with was a very expensive bun!!

Anyway..... Just letting you know the food should be better this year in the pits.

Brian. :)

our group is in and in same spot as usual. top end bleachers are different
this year - got rid of old wood bleachers, now have alum., but they don't
go quite as far as old ones did.

Were they the bleachers from the old Met Stadium in Bloomington?

I think they were the old field level bleachers from the Met. I cant remember the layout of the Met (it's been 25 years) but I'm pretty sure they had a section of bleachers on the field. It was a weired layout..... Only NFL stadium in history where the home team and the visiting team shared the same sideline.

So where exactly on that Map is the Zoo?

I'll reuse Paul's photo.....

Joe, Pretty much anything inside the yellow is considered the ZOO. It's mostly anything inside the perimeter of the road course but when it gets near the go cart track and the reserved RV parking spaces it goes from a wild party to quiet camping...

To get an idea how big it is, compare it to the 1/4 mile drag strip....

bill: don't know, i'd guess they're not as big as the 'bud' stands that are
the first section of gen. admission bleachers, but that's only a guess.

brian: i think you're right, aren't the 'bud' bleachers the old met bleachers?
but here's my question, where are they for all of the year except the nats.??
they weren't there in june. someone must lease them?
nice job with paul's map;)

That's a pretty Big Zoo there! All the talk about the partying and having fun, I've heard people have had their campers set on Fire in there. Not all singing around the Campfire from what I've heard...

hasn't been unrulely there for many years (late 80's/early 90's)
you mess up now and you're immediately escorted to the front gate
or worse.
joe, you should really attend some year; your potential 'eye candy'
pics would be endless.

It's tamed down over the years. But you can still have as much fun as you want. Just keep your cloths on and don't get in a fight and you should be just fine. And watch the drunk driving on the party carts.

For the most part people don't have an issue with the law enforcement there.

As long as your not a jerk.
