Bertsch looking for strong debut in San Antonio

MARION, Texas - Armed with a new major sponsor, a new Rick Jones built 2007 Mustang and a fresh bullet from renowned engine builder Jon Kaase, IHRA Torco's CompetitionPlus.com Pro Stock driver Bob Bertsch is looking forward to a strong debut at this weekend's IHRA Amalie Oil Texas Nationals presented by Napa Auto Parts at San Antonio Raceway. Bertsch enters the event on the heels of a strong test session in his Rislone Engine Treatment backed ride in nearby Houston.

Bertsch, of Willis, Mich., just took delivery of his new car on Friday from Rick Jones' shop. The team made a stop in Houston for some shakedown laps on the new car, which resulted in a best time of 6.45 seconds. Bertsch and his crew feel there is plenty more in the tank for San Antonio.

"We just kind of snuck up on it in Houston," said Bertsch. "There's definitely a few hundredths on the table by just fixing a few minor things, and more from there as we fine tune to what the car wants. I think we're in pretty fair shape for San Antonio. We just picked the car up last Friday, so it's been a busy week. Needless to say, we're pretty excited about starting the season."

"It's very special to this team to enter the year with Rislone as our major sponsor," Bertsch added. "Bar's Leaks has been good to us for a long time, but when they bought out Rislone last year and came on board as a sponsor, it's made a good relationship even better. We're going to do our best to represent Rislone, Share Capital Wealth Management and Ram Clutches and put this Mustang in a few winner's circles along the way."

Qualifying begins with two sessions on Friday for Torco's CompetitionPlus.com Pro Stock with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to IHRA.com for the latest news in IHRA Drag Racing.
