BARKLAGE RACING ENDURES AN EARLY EXIT IN ATLANTA

April 30, 2007 (COMMERCE, GA) – NHRA AMS Pro Modified team of Barklage Racing suffered a disappointing weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce , Georgia .

Qualifying went well, for 19 year old Cody Barklage. Running his weekend best of 6.11 during the second session of qualifying, Cody was able to make the quickest ever field of legal Pro Mod’s from the No. 10 spot.

“We typically can run much quicker, but despite it all we were able to make the show,” said Cody. “We are always proud to have our Lucas Oil, Torco Racing Fuels Pontiac make the field of the best Pro Mod’s in the world. My car felt good this weekend; we really wanted to step up our game and give it a bit more. The fans in Atlanta were great; I’m just glad we were able to help give them a great weekend of Pro Mod racing.”

Although Cody had a solid qualifying effort, older brother Zach was not so fortunate. Missing the field by a .10 of a second, Zach broke his over year long qualifying streak.

“We had a few mechanical difficulties, but we tried to step it up,” said Zach. “We were a little off our game this weekend; unfortunately, we paid the price, and were unable to make the show. The track was a little tricky, but that is still no excuse. I’m disappointed because I know we are a better team then what we showed this weekend. At this point all we can do is regroup for the next race and go at it again.”

Although Cody Barklage had a solid qualifying effort, the team was unable to get past Shelly Payne in the first round of competition.

“The car shook pretty good,” said Cody. “I got off of it, and back in but I just couldn’t chase her down. She ran a great number, so I just couldn’t get past her. We had ran consistent during qualifying, but it just wasn’t enough. Regardless of our first round loss, I know we have a winning team.”

Barklage Racing would like to thank Goodyear Tires, Lucas Oil, Torco Racing Fuel, Goodson Tools, Taylor Cable, Applebee’s, P & A Drywall, Pit Mat USA, Lake Race Products, Weld Racing and NGK Sparkplugs for their continued support.
