WORSHAM TO HIT FROM "3 HOLE" ON SUNDAY

Del Worsham drove his Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Monte Carlo to a clean and solid 4.897 on his final lap here on Saturday, giving both him and his team a dose of confidence heading into Sunday's elimination. The only downside to the day was the fact Worsham slipped one notch on the ladder, when Eric Medlen posted a 4.801 on his final pass, inching past Worsham's best time by 2-thousandths of a second. With that, Worsham ended qualifying in the No. 3 spot, matching his best start of the season. He has now qualified 3rd on four occasions, and has always gone multiple rounds when doing so. He will face Tony Bartone in round one.

"Hey, the best hitter on the team bats third, so there's nothing wrong with that," Worsham said. "I would have liked to stay 2nd, but on that last pass we were way more concerned with a good race-day baseline and we just didn't want to go out there trying to do too much. We wanted to make sure we knew where the comfort zone was, and we can step up a little from that tomorrow. It was a totally safe run, never in trouble at all, so there are all sorts of places to lean on it a little bit to pick up some more ET.

"We have a tough assignment tomorrow, which shouldn't be news to anyone. The only way you don't have a tough opponent on Sunday, these days, is to not qualify. If you make the field, you're going to run a tough car in round one, and Bartone's car is a very tough way to open the day. We're going to have to be right on our game to get out of round one here."
