Wilkerson Slides Down To The No. 14 Spot

Pomona - Tim Wilkerson had hoped to improve upon his performance in today's qualifying session at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. But the 4.70 run he was looking for was not to be found. Wilkerson laid down a 4.892 at 307.79 mph with his Levi, Ray & Shoup Monte Carlo, and slid down into the No. 14 qualifying position.

"We dropped a cylinder at 2.0 seconds on that run," explained Wilkerson. "Seven cylinders aren't going to get it done. We swapped blowers today and it's just not as good. We tried it when we tested and it acted okay there, but it didn't like it here. We just didn't have it tuned-up enough for that blower. It must like to be zipped up a little more. We chewed the other one up a little yesterday and we had to work on it today. So, we'll put it back on for tomorrow and see how it acts. But it is definitely the best one we have.

"It should be good. It's leaving the starting line and running good early. It was a couple hundreds faster than Beckman (car in the other lane) at the 330 clock, and a hundred faster than our 4.77 run here last fall. It's running good, I just have to get the 'ole girl to go to the end. But I'm not thinking we'll have an issue, we just need to keep working at it. I'm happy with it really. It's running fast early and that's what makes it good. So, we'll tune it up for tomorrow and hope for the track to be there when we get aggressive."
