Wilkerson has a plan of action for the challenges of the Pacific Northwest

SEATTLE, Prerace: The 21st annual Schuck's Auto Supply NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways, just outside of Seattle, is the second stop on the Western Swing of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tour. Racing at sea level and nestled among the tall pine trees in the grandeur of majestic Mt. Rainer, Pacific Raceways presents Funny Car points leader, Tim Wilkerson, a completely different set of conditions from what he faced in the grueling heat and mile-high attitude last weekend in Denver. But Wilkerson conquered the challenges of the mountain and is now ready to take on the new set awaiting him.

“Seattle is a completely different challenge from Denver, there’s no doubt about that,” expressed Wilkerson. “And I certainly hope that it doesn’t cause us any hiccups. You have to figure what the heavy air is doing and you sure never know what may happen. But we have a plan of action for the weekend and I’m really feeling that things should be good.”

Wilkerson proved his Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS is the hot rod to beat as he impressed the crowds at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals. Wilkerson handily mastered the high altitude, the new chassis, the new tires and the 1000 foot racing distance as he wiped out three Team Force cars and Jack Beckman on his way to his fourth win of the season.

But now all of that is put away in his data records. And Wilkerson wants to be sure that he and his crew stay focused as they start fresh at a different track in a totally different part of our beautiful country. Enjoying a dream come true season, Wilkerson and his dedicated team are certainly experiencing a satisfying feeling of accomplishment but want to make sure they don’t become overconfident.

“Going rounds, winning races and sitting on top of everything makes us feel good and is good for the morale,” explained the level-headed Wilkerson. “But we can’t get overconfident and lackadaisical. Friday in Denver the guys were complaining a little about why we had to be at the track so early in morning, and I explained to them that the more time we spend at the track the better our car runs. No matter how good we’re doing, we can’t take our eye off the ball. We have to keep our junk running and hopefully we can think about how good we’ve been doing as we get closer to the end of the season.”
