Weaver looking to rebound in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. - After a disappointing outing filled with parts breakage during last weekend's Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in Seattle, John Weaver and the Meer Capital Partners NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car team will be looking to rebound at this weekend's Fram-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway. Armed with the confidence the parts problems are solved, the team hopes to enjoy the success they have enjoyed on the divisional level this year on a national stage.

Weaver, from Orting, Wash., entered the Seattle event just two weeks removed from a win on the Lucas Oil divisional trail, and hopes to revisit the winner's circle again.

"We just had a lot of freak problems last weekend," said Weaver. "We had pretty high hopes heading into the weekend. We had some oiling issues with one block and an issue with the crank in the next motor, so it really put us behind the 8 ball. Hopefully we can put those problems behind us and start from scratch this weekend."

Despite not achieving the on-track performance he had hoped for, Team Owner Ron Meer was energized by the effort and performance of his Bob DeVour lead team.

"The guys really did a great job," stated Meer. "The team was confronted by some really trying issues, and they came through every time like it was nothing. Seeing the guys in action makes me proud to be associated with them. We're cautiously optimistic we have our parts problems solved and can get back on track this weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars and concludes Saturday morning. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon and conclude on Sunday.
