STEVE TORRENCE

Qualifying position/performance: No. 4 at 3.698 seconds, 333.99 miles per hour.
Qualifying bonus points: Three for quick time in Q3.
Race finish: Advanced to the semifinals

Veteran Doug Kalitta awaits the winner of that epic showdown between drivers who, between them, have won 12 Top Fuel championships.
The No. 4 qualifier at 3.698 seconds, Torrence opened Sunday with a quality win over championship contender Mike Salinas, 3.701 to 3.739 seconds.
In the quarter finals, racing against close friend and fierce rival Antron Brown, the 54-time tour winner rode a second straight 3.701 to victory, earning a measure of payback for his loss two weeks ago in the final round of the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, Ind.
If Torrence and his CAPCO team can win out on Monday, they can take over the point lead from regular season champion Justin Ashley and his Phillips Direct team. Ashley, who won six races in regular season and was the No. 1 qualifier at Maple Grove, was upset by Schumacher in round two.

Top Fuel – Steve Torrence, CAPCO Contractors dragster, versus Tony Schumacher, SCAG Power Equipment dragster, winner to race Doug Kalitta, MAC Tools dragster.
Funny Car –Ron Capps, NAPA Toyota Supra versus Robert Hight, Cornwell Tools/AAA Chevy Camaro; Bob Tasca III, Motorcraft Ford Mustang, versus Chad Green, Bond-Coat Ford Mustang.
