STRIKER Monaro Top Qualifies at Westernationals

4th March 2007 - In a field of 15 cars all competing for eight places in the run for Round Five of the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship, it was John Zappia and his Striker Monaro who showed he is still the quickest doorslammer driver in Australia by top qualifying last night at the Perth Motorplex.

A 6.068et @ 234.37mph off the trailer at 6pm set the benchmark that only last round winner Brett Stevens, and legend Victor Bray came close to with 6.087et and 6.100et runs respectively. The second qualifier saw Zap pedal to a 6.234et @ 225.00mph despite the Walt Austin World Record 5 second engine suffering some damage. The bump spot was 6.226et - a new benchmark for this category after 6.233et was the bump spot at last round in Sydney.

The Zappia Racing crew showed their depth of experience in rectifying the engine damage in time for round three, where Zap pulled off a 6.064et @ 229.59mph to top the qualifying list. A 3.948 second 330' time was impressive, and the only driver in the field to break the 4.000 second 330 foot barrier - a key incremental to run five second passes.

Eliminations start today Sunday 4th Feb at 6pm.
