Smith shows his strength at Gainesville (1 Viewer)

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 14, 2011) – Rickie Smith and his Nitrous Injected Pro Modified Chevrolet Camaro went into the first race on the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge in Gainesville, Florida with high hopes.

The veteran driver knew he would have his work cut out for him with the huge field of racecars on the property. Smith proved he still had it in him when he qualified his Carolina Drilling/Coffman Tank Trucks Chevy in the third spot heading into first round eliminations.

“We knew it was going to be a tough field,” said Smith. “There are some great nitrous and blower cars on the property, and the turbo cars are unbelievably fast if they can figure out how to get down the track. We knew we would have to throw everything at it to run well here.”

Smith would defeat Joe Baker first round and work his way down to eight. Smith lost lane choice going into the second round, so he knew he would have to step it up a notch. Not only did Smith leave on Raymond Commisso, but he would outrun him as well and advance to the semi-finals to run Danny Rowe.

Smith and Rowe would leave the starting line together, but Rowe would make it to the top end first, as Smith’s car stumbled a bit down low.

“We had a good day,” said Smith. “The car didn’t run down low at all on that last pass, so we will go back and evaluate the data and move on to the next race. Overall we proved we got something for these boys out here. We are ready for the next one.”

With Smith running strong and third in the points in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge, he will next be racing at Las Vegas, Nevada in a few weeks.
