Smith Hopes to Dominate in Atlanta

The 2007 Pro Stock Motorcycle Champion, Matt Smith is looking to dominate in Atlanta just as he did last time out in Houston a few weeks ago.

Smith not only qualified his Nitrofish Buell No. 1 in Houston, but won the race as well. After converting all his motors at his race shop over to be like the one he ran in Houston, Smith feels as if he is more than ready to run this weekend at Atlanta.

“We are definitely ready,” said Smith. “We have made so much progress since the beginning of the year that it is just amazing. I said after Houston that my goal for Atlanta is for me and Angie (Smith’s teammate) to qualify No. 1 and No. 2, so hopefully we can start the weekend off like that. I would be disappointed if we don’t.”

Smith has fared rather well in the past at the Commerce based track. Last year Smith qualified No. 2 at the Atlanta event, but broke a crank in the finals as soon as he let the clutch out. This year, Smith hopes to win his first event at the Atlanta Dragway.

Going into this weekend’s race, Smith sits second in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship point standings, only one round out of the lead, and he hopes to get back at the top of those standings by the end of Sunday’s eliminations.

Professional qualifying kicks of on Friday afternoon with the Pro Stock motorcycle class at 2 p.m. EST.
