Sampey Slides up to Sixth Spot; Brown Sits Eighth

Indianapolis, Friday: Angelle Sampey and Antron Brown, who pilot the U.S. Army Suzukis, settled into the sixth and eighth starting positions, respectively, following one round of qualifying.

Sampey, who is a three-time world champion, posted a 7.099-second pass at 184.72 mph to move into the top six.

“It’s a nice start for us,” said the Louisiana native. “We have four more qualifying sessions left so there’s plenty of time to improve. We’ll be just fine.”

Brown just made it into the upper half of the field with his 7.138-second run at 183.47 mph.

“We had a good front half of the lap, but we lost something in the back half,” said the Indianapolis resident. “I’m confident we’ll refine things and we’ll be much better tomorrow.”

Part of the work day for Sampey and Brown on Saturday will include the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle. They will face each other in the first round of the special race that pays out $25,000 to the winner.
