PHOENIX, Ariz., Feb. 20, 2013—Bob Tasca III is ready to add another building block to the wall of momentum he and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team started building with a semifinal finish at the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Series season-opener in Pomona, Calif. last weekend.

Tasca started the year off with two round wins before taking a gamble on the starting line in a semifinal loss to Courtney Force, ending up on the wrong side of the Christmas tree starting device by just -.086th of a second for a foul.

“I had to do what I felt I had to do to win, racing a car that was the dominant car of the weekend,” Tasca said. “As luck would have it, she smoked the tires. But we made a full pull, and that’s great data for the team, considering the things we were trying in that semifinal round.

“For us, it’s about going down the race track and really picking away at our tune-up. Now, we had things go our way, but we put ourselves in the position to win races by going down the racetrack.”

Tasca heads to Firebird International Raceway fourth in the point standings.

“Seeing how the weekend started off, we were pretty happy about that last run (a 4.142-second pass at 311.34 mph),” Tasca said. “Even though it wasn’t a 4.02, there was a lot on that run we were happy about and it gives us a great place to start in Phoenix. We’re showing progress every time we’ve made changes, and on Sunday we went down the track three times with moderate changes. We’ll pick up where we left off and continue to improve.”

Tasca stayed on the West Coast after Pomona for a family trip to Las Vegas.

“My kids’ vacation is this week, and it’s very difficult for me to fly home and back, so they met me here (in Las Vegas) on Monday,” said Tasca, who visited Hoover Dam and saw several shows with his family. “In 20 years, I’ve never been to Vegas just to enjoy Vegas. It’s been nice. I never realized everything there is to do here.”
