Moroso 5-Day race next on Coughlin’s agenda

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.((Nov. 12) – Before returning to NHRA Pro Stock competition behind the wheel of Victor Cagnazzi’s Slammers Ultimate Milk / JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt, three-time world champion Jeg Coughlin was tearing up the big money E.T. racing circuit with his JEGS Mail Order dragster. Following the completion of this weekend’s Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Coughlin hopes to pick up where he left off as he'll jet cross country from Pomona to West Palm Beach, Fla., to compete in the 25th annual Moroso 5-Day E.T. bracket championships, Nov. 14-18.

This year’s Silver Anniversary 5-Day race will open with a $25,000 to win race followed by four additional $10,000 to win events. Drivers will accumulate points at each event, and at the end of the week, the driver with the most points will be crowned the overall points champ and claim an additional $5,000 bonus. Coughlin is a former overall points champion and still fondly recalls that victory as one of the highlights of his career.

“The Moroso 5-Day has always been one of the most highly anticipated bracket races of the year,” said Coughlin, who plans to race both his JEGS Mail Order dragster and his '67 Chevy Nova wagon during the event. “I have a lot of great memories from past Moroso 5-Day races and hopefully we can make a few more this year. I haven't had a chance to bracket race since I returned to Pro Stock so I'm pretty excited about getting a chance to race at Moroso. We have a chance to race for five-straight days so even if I'm a bit rusty, I should get plenty of practice.”

As a former event winner and overall points champion at the Moroso 5-Day, Coughlin will also be eligible to compete in the JEGS Race of Champions, which will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The JEGS Race of Champions is an exclusive event which is open only to those elite few drivers who have won either the overall points championship or an individual event during the previous 24 years of the Moroso 5-Day E.T. championships. Member of the veteran’s club, which is made up of drivers who have competed in all 24 previous 5-Day events, will also be granted an entry. There is no entry fee and the champion will receive $5,000.

“The JEGS Race of Champions is one those special events that everyone wants to win,” said Coughlin. “I know I certainly wouldn't mind having that trophy on my mantle. Since the race is open only to former champions and veterans, I expect the competition to be as tough as anything I've faced this year.”
