Millican pleased with No. 11 spot

Pomona, Calif. - Clay Millican officially began his first full season of NHRA POWERade Series competition by grabbing 11th place with a 4.679-second run that wasn't as good as it might've been as qualifying began for Sunday's season-opening CARQUEST Winternationals at Pomona Raceway.

"I'm more than pleased with that run," said a smiling Millican, who is at the controls of the Knoll-Gas Motorsports/Torco Racing Fuels dragster this year. "We put a cylinder out early -- at one second -- and it still ran 4.679 at 315.56 mph. That was a lot of speed for seven cylinders . . . and the motor was clean and dry after the run. Last year when we dropped a cylinder the car didn't run that well and the motor usually wasn't clean or dry.

"Mike (Kloeber, team crew chief) got the car to go down the track without any tire shake or tire spin. And we are in the 16-car field with three more qualifying run to make improvements."
