Mechanical Woes Hit McClenathan at Brainerd
Tire Smoke Results in First-round Finish

BRAINERD, Minn. (8/13/06) -- Cory McClenathan's hopes for a first-round victory literally went up in smoke Sunday in the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

"The tires smoked almost at the hit of the throttle," McClenathan reported, "and I pedaled it even before I thought about it. Then I shut it off."

The Carrier Boyz FRAM Boost Top Fuel dragster coasted to the finish line in 11.552 seconds at 86.46 mph giving the win to Morgan Lucas' 4.597 at 314.09.

"That caught us by surprise," added McClenathan. "We really don't know what happened. But Wes (Cerny, crew chief) and Tony (Shortall) will be going over everything to get ready for Memphis."

The team returns to NHRA POWERade Series competition Friday at Memphis Motorsports Park.
