Wow; interesting stuff. Those early days especially. The logistics of it today are quite different I would think. Today you've got Limos pulling into huge Hospitality/Pit area "compounds".... escorts down to the starting line, coordinating TV appearances, etc. I think the uniqueness of the NHRA fan interaction in the pits makes it exciting for everyone; and much more marketable. I mean, like for instance, Justin Bieber could go to Talledega and hang out in the UPS Racing pit garage, look at the car and crew then go watch the race in a suite; maybe go to pit road.... and that's about it.
