Carpenter goes wire-to-wire for Orangeburg win

(6-19-2007) ORANGEBURG, SC – All the pieces came together for Charles Carpenter this weekend at the newly revamped Orangeburg Dragstrip, culminating in his second race victory of the 2007 season.

“We’ve had the car to beat at the past few races,” said Carpenter. “But for one reason or another, we haven’t been able to get everything to fall into place.”

That all changed Saturday night as Carpenter ran the table on the Nitrous Quick 8 field. The Pro Mod pioneer qualified number one with a wild 4.08, 181 MPH pass, then recorded low elapsed time (4.040) and top speed (181 MPH) of the event en route to picking up the event win.

“The 4.04 we ran in eliminations is our quickest eighth-mile ET to date,” the Charlotte, NC native added. “We were excited about that, but we really wanted that win. That’s what it’s all about.”

Carpenter received a bye-run in the final round, much like his victory at the ADRL Dragpalooza event in March, when Steve Vick was unable to make the call due to a burned piston.

“I did something I rarely do: I loaded the car up with everything I have been wanting to try since we had a bye,” admitted Carpenter. “The track really had teeth, and we ended up being too light on the clutch, so I quit. I was shooting for a 4.01 or .02, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”

The veteran owner/driver will get another shot at low 4.0s this weekend when he returns to Quick 8 Racers’ Association action in Roxboro, NC.

Carpenter is still actively seeking primary sponsorship support. For more information about Charles Carpenter Racing and The World’s Fastest ’55 Chevy, or for a copy of the team’s 2007 Marketing Partnership Guide, visit Charles Carpenter Racing.
