Career Best for Barklage Racing in Gainesville

In the toughest competition ever, the AMS Pro Modified Challenge presented by Tindal Enterprises Inc, has finished the first event of 2007 during the AC Delco NHRA GatorNationals. With the national speed and ET records broke and the second quickest field of cars in the history of the series, young Cody and Zach Barklage knew it would take all they had to perform.

After running a 6.02 during a test session in 2006, Cody Barklage qualified with his career best ET in regular competition. Running a 6.06, 236.75 MPH Cody was set in the No. 11 spot. Also running a career best in AMS competition, Zach Barklage ran a 6.08, 232.42 MPH and was set in the lucky 13 spot.

"I know my car is good, and we wanted to prove it," commented Zach Barklage. "Although was on the bottom half of the field, I ran my career best. We were able to step things up each round of qualifying, so I felt good about the power we had. This has been a crazy weekend with all the five second runs, but a 6.09 is very good."

"We were able to get my car to 6.02 last year, so I knew my car had it in her," continued Cody Barklage. "We came out hoping for the best, and I also ran my best during competition. Like my brother, I was happy to have a good number, but the competition was tough."

Despite having career best times, and very good cars, the team was unable to get around their opponents in round one. Cody Barklage shook hard at the hit of the throttle, allowing Raymond Commisso to drive around him. Zach Barklage ran a quick 6.09, 230.33 MPH but lost to Mike Janis who ran his career best of 5.96, 237.63 MPH.

"I'm proud of our whole team although we went out in round one," said team owner Mark Barklage. "We worked hard, and improved our race program with every pass. I know we are heading into what could be one of the toughest years ever, but I'm confidant we will do very well. Zach and Cody are excellent drivers, and we keep stepping up our race program. We will continue to improve and do well."

The AC Delco NHRA GatorNationals was the 1st of 10 events on the AMS Pro Modified Challenge presented by Tindal Enterprises Inc. The next stop on the AMS Pro Modified Challenge tour is the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Ennis, Texas.
