Brown looking to play spoiler role

Indianapolis - With his second round loss to teammate Angelle Sampey in Reading, U.S. Army racer Antron Brown was eliminated from the championship hunt. He will now try to finish among the top 10 in points for the 10th time in his career.

“My goals for the rest of the season are pretty clear,” he said. “I want to win races, including the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle, and I want to help Angelle, while finishing once again in the top 10. They’re all very doable.”

Both Brown and Sampey will take part in the 17th annual Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle this Saturday at O’Reilly Raceway Park. It’s a special race within a race that spotlights the eight Pro Stock Motorcycle riders who have earned the most points during qualifying over a 15-race span.

After claiming six poles, Sampey secured the number one seed for the Battle and will face off with Steve Johnson in the opening round at 2:15 p.m. ET, while Brown will come out of the seventh spot to square off with Andrew Hines.

The Battle winner will earn $25,000 and have an opportunity for a $10,000 “Double-Up” bonus from the NHRA should he or she also win the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

“I haven’t had the greatest of seasons, so if I could win the Battle and the U.S. Nationals this weekend, that would definitely take some of the sting away,” said Brown.
