ALAN JOHNSON AL-ANABI RACING DEBUTS WITH TEST SESSION IN FLORIDA;

Rookie Driver from UAE will Attempt A-Fuel Dragster License

BROWNSBURG, Ind. – Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing, a new two-car NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing team, will debut this weekend at Palm Beach International Raceway in West Palm Beach, Fla. in a three-day test session starting tomorrow, it was announced today.

The team will start the test session with Larry Dixon’s Top Fuel team on Friday. Del Worsham’s Funny Car will begin testing on Saturday, and both cars will be on the track Sunday, Jan. 18. It is a closed test session, with only invited teams permitted on the grounds. Among the invited teams are Don Schumacher Racing, team owner Alan Johnson’s former team, Tim Wilkerson Racing and Kallita Racing. Both Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing entries will also test in Phoenix next weekend.

Khalid Al Balooshi, the 2008 United Arab Emerites Drag Race Champion, will use the three-day test session to get his A-Fuel dragster license. Al Balooshi will train with Tom Conway, a former alcohol dragster champion who owns an A-Fuel dragster. Al Balooshi won the 2008 UAE championship driving in the Pro-Mod category; his ultimate goal is to obtain his Top Fuel License in the future.

Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing is a partnership between Alan Johnson and His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani. The team will be a two-car NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Team fielding entries in Top Fuel and Funny Car competition. At the forefront of this partnership is Al Thani’s goal to promote the domestic and international awareness of Motorsports in the nation of Qatar. Johnson is an eight-time NHRA Top Fuel Championship crew chief. The team is in the process of establishing its website. Who is the sponsor(s)? Or is the Sheik running this team solely out of pocket? Do they have a website yet?

no sponsor....thats the great thing about being a billionaire....you don't need no stinkin sponsor

I've been informed that Sheik Al Thani is involved in construction. However, almost everything in that area of the world is financed by oil.
So . . . the answer may be that everyone who fills their tank is an associate sponsor! - :D

Do I get my name on the car?

This is what I find most interesting and encouraging about the "International" involvement.
Another TF team financed by Middle Eastern money??? ;)

I am guessing the guy with the white shirt in the photo to the right is the Sheik , looks like just a normal guy if it didn't say who he was I would have thought he was a fan or something .

William - GOOD EYE! We'll have that photo with us next weekend at Firebird!
Does anyone know how to address this guy so you can have a conversation?
Khalid - Sheik - Your Highness? Don't want to get off on the wrong foot while requesting my name on the car. Mike, if I'm successful, I'll pass your request to be included on to my new buddy - ;)

Private test session or not............I know I will be following the testing through whatever news sources provide information. :)

Testing is underway..

Dixon didn't make it to the tree
C Mac shut off just before 660
Tony S didnt make the tree

Arend made 2 very nice 330 passes.
Hagen also made a nice 330.

Thanks DRC!

:D Thanks for the heads up Paul!!!
Let there be NITRO

Interesting side note. What do the years 2001 & 2009 have in common for Alan Johnson??
Defending TF champion and fielding a FC.................final results
Gary Scelzi 5th in TF
Bruce Sarver 6th in FC I know, a lot has changed but very interesting!!

I have this strange feeling that Paul Page will just let Gary Gerald butcher his name up. Seeing how Paul Page isn't the brightest crayon in the box- I doubt if he will try and touch this one with a ten foot pole!!!!

Hey all you Florida folks--

I was just checking the Palm Beach website, and they just put up a notice that Sunday you can get in and watch, tickets are $20.
