A struggling Wilkerson looks for improvement tomorrow

Reading, Friday: Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson struggled today on both runs at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals. After posting a 5.549 followed by a 14.792, Wilkerson's Levi, Ray & Shoup Monte Carlo sits in the No. 17 qualifying position. Wilkerson is running a brand new chassis this weekend and knows that it will take a few runs to get things worked out.

"On our first run we just had new car blues," explained Wilkerson. "We had a wire that didn't get tightened up when we put the car together. It caused a mag retarder to stay in total retard. It was going along pretty good until then. Then on our next run, we just over-powered the track. We were just trying too hard. It was like the same thing we had in Dallas, just a little too tipped over. That's the problem with this set back blower deal. It's the same problem we had last time we ran it. There is such a fine line of it going fast or not going, at least with my tune-up. And this chassis is a little different from the other one. It doesn't seem to stick the tires as good as the old car. Because I didn't think I had it tuned up that much. The problem too with this place is that the air is always better than you think it is when it's cool. It's really crazy air here.

"So, we're going to try again tomorrow. I'm confident that we can make it go down the track. The bump's going to be an 80 flat tomorrow, by the time we're done. So, were going to have to get our shit together and make it run."
