Yates Keeps Improving, Qualifies 8th at Las Vegas
Wiley X Eye Wear/Sea Ray Boats Pontiac Driver Races Erica Enders

LAS VEGAS - Jim Yates turned in four solid qualifying runs and will start eighth in Sunday's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His quickest run, 6.762 seconds at 203.49 mph, came Friday night and sends him against Erica Enders (ninth, 6.763 at 202.96) in the first round.

Crew chief Jamie Yates said the Wiley X Eye Wear/Sea Ray Boat Pontiac GTO team was "real happy with the way the car has been running. We even get lane choice in the first round.

"We keep changing things, experimenting to see what our new car likes. We made little changes for our final run and learned a lot. We've changed the car completely from how we ran it earlier in the year and have been relying on all our data. Everything we learn is stuff we can use in the future."

Yates 6.769-second run in the final session was third-quickest as track conditions worsened from Friday.
