WORSHAM LANDS 14th, HAS CAPPS IN ROUND ONE

Del Worsham would have believed you if you had told him, early in the year, that he'd have a role in deciding the points lead with his round one match-up in Seattle. He just would have assumed he, himself, would be one of the participants making a run at the top spot on the POWERade points sheet. Instead, he'll be facing points leader Ron Capps in round one here on Sunday, and John Force (who trails Capps by 29 points at the conclusion of qualifying in Seattle,) will be a highly interested observer.

"I'm sure the Force camp will be pulling for us, but to tell you the truth it's more important for me to keep the people from CSK, and Schuck's Auto Supply happy," Worsham said. "Our goal, no matter who we face, is to make a good lap and force the issue, not let the issue be Force, if you catch my drift. We're racing Ron Capps, who is the points leader and who drives a very fast car, so we have to stay within our plan and make sure we give ourselves a chance to win.

"We bucked the odds a little during the first session today, improving from our 5.00 to a 4.975 in the heat, but we ended up down near the bottom of the ladder because we didn't run well enough last night. We're sneaking up on some new approaches to tuning, kind of experimenting as we race, so if we're guilty of anything right now it's that we're taking baby steps. If you make big moves, and smoke the tires, you don't know how far overboard you went, so you're not learning much. We're taking small steps, to see what it will do, and we're getting there. We just have to be confident we can put a good lap on the board if it's hot out here on Sunday."
