WJ sits seventh after the first day

Pomona, Calif. - Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team kicked off their 2007 season in fine fashion on Thursday, opening with a solid 6.676-second, 207.56 mph run in the first qualifying session for the Carquest Auto Parts Winternationals in Pomona, CA. This placed the six-time champion in the seventh position, with designs of improving in one of his final three attempts at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

"We were a little conservative with our set-up on that first run, figuring that would be a little smarter than trying to go for the throat right out of the box. This way, we'll have a chance to see exactly what we have in this GM Performance Parts GTO, and tune it from there. Looking at the data, we know we left something on the table, so we should be able to pick it up and keep ourselves at or near the top of the field throughout the weekend."
