War Horse ends season in ninth place (1 Viewer)

Fallbrook, CA – The hard chargin’ War Horse nostalgia funny car driven by Roger Garten posted three career best runs at the 20th California Hot Rod Reunion this past weekend in Bakersfield, California. Competing against 32 funny car entries, the team secured a position in the top 16 to put the Mustang on the race day ladder. With a first round match up against the number two qualifier and event runner up, Garten got sent back to the barn but his Mustang ran nearly two tenths quicker than ever before at Famoso Raceway with a career best 5.87 second run.

The 33 funny car field was the quickest ever and ripe with career best performances throughout the weekend. Twenty two cars posted times quicker than 5.99 seconds and a new world record of 5.58 seconds was set in the final round of competition.

Garten had stated prior to this event that the Famoso track has always been tricky for his car and team. His performance this past weekend certainly seems to have broken that spell. Garten commented, “Any weekend you can lay down record performance numbers and bring home an intact race car is a personal victory.” The Hot Rod Reunion was the last race of the year and Garten completes the 2011 NHRA Heritage Series season ninth in points.
