I wonder who came up with the Canard wings? I've seen them ahead of the engine (like in the photo) & under the headers. Some of the early 1971 back motor cars had canards (no wing yet) in front of the slicks. Seems to me that the canards in front of the motor were best place (IMO), cuz they complimented the downforce from the headers. Would love to hear some input on this. Input, need input....
Cliff
Remember in the early 70s when some of the Funny's tried canard wings.
Here is SoCal's Jeff Courtie with canards in front of the rear tire. I LOVE IT!!!

Man I miss Drag Racing USA. As a kid I looked forward to walking to the local drugstore every month to get the new issue, maybe 75 cents? I loved their car features.

Me too ! I looked forward to every new issue. It was a great magazine. I still have a good sized stack of old issues that I read from time to time

i loved the Veney's Vega. Still looks cool today. I think the Birkey Bunch car was the car Jeb Allen drove at Tulsa - the one he had the wreck w/ John Wiebe in. I know Birkey bought that car & changed the way it looked (front spoiler). Ben Griffin had a killer injected nitro F/C Mustang. Saw it run at Lions Last Race. The Carroll Bros car may have been their T/F car.
I remember Don Moody going 5.91 in that car at Ontario in late 1972. Low ET of the World! Could not believe how quick that car ran.....

I don't think that's Jeb's old car, that is Pomona 1989. Don Moody picture, July 1972 Div 7 race. The one and only
time I went to Lions

1972 was a year when the ET's just kept getting quicker & quicker. started off at Lions with Snake & Wiebe both supposedly going 6.17; Garlits at the Gators 6.15-243 and went from there. Cars started getting into the 6.0's. Jerry Ruth 6.06 at Indy that year. Ivo ran that (infamous) 5.97 in the middle of the year. Some believed it & some didn't, but the Cragar 5 second Club had him as the first member. Then Ontario. Mike Snively the first NHRA '5" and then Moody at 5.91, which held for awhile. I was at that race & everyone was running so quick. That's one of the races you don't forget.
