Summernationals Snapshot - Ben & Victor Bray

Wednesday, 13 February 2008 - (Sydney, NSW) Whether there are 9 - or 19 Top Doorslammers like there will be at Western Sydney International Dragway this Friday and Saturday for the Summernationals, one can always be rest assured that Ben and Victor Bray will be right in the thick of it, in the world's fastest Sedan based vehicles.

Add an imposing black Funny Car into the Top Alcohol mix, team Bray are ready to have at Sydney in a big way this weekend!

"This will be the second outing at WSID for ANDRA Top Doorslammer, and with only eight cars out of 19 going through to day 2 eliminations everyone will be trying to get a handle on the Sydney racing surface early during qualifying," said Victor.

"As my old mate from the west John Zappia now has a good hold on the Top Doorslammer championship, a lot of the hitters will focus on performance and not on the title," Victor said. "It is only a matter of time now until someone matches his standout performances.. The last time we ran the Doorslammers in Sydney, back in September, I ran a 6.010. Add to that Gary Phillips' 6.015 and Stuart Bishop's 6.022 and the effort being put in by all teams it is very fast becoming WHEN someone catches up , not IF anymore.

In fact Bishop's 6.022 was only good enough for fourth and remarkably, Aaron Lynch's 6.082 at 244 miles per hour left him in the BOTTOM half of the qualifying field!

"Although, to borrow a famous saying, I would rather be the target than the arrow, I am as focused as ever on getting my Chevy and Ben's Monaro down the track fast, because with 19 drivers there trying to make an eight-car field, we will need to be on the game from the first qualifying session. I can already feel the field starting to fire up."

As for Team Bray's Armor All Funny Car, Ben wants to keep touch in the Top Alcohol championship chase, and although he's currently in fourth place, with some solid performances he still has a good chance of reducing the 133-point gap to the series leader.

"It was at this event in 2006 that I ran my first five-fifty pass of 5.575 and I would love to do that again," Ben said. "The WSID track is always well prepared and if the weather is good, fingers crossed and a few cards fall our way, we can move up the championship ladder."

Top Doorslammer has become a Sydney standout category in ANDRA Championship Drag Racing - expect more of the same this weekend!
