INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 28, 2008) - The layoff between events on the JEGS ProMod Challenge has been excruciating for Lexington, Ky. drag racing veteran Rick Stivers, mostly because racing is his passion and his favorite past time. As he heads into the MAC Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals this weekend, Stivers has more than racing to get him excited because he will be fielding a special edition "Support our Troops" car tuned by world champion Quain Stott.

Stivers and Stott announced their plans to run the special '63 split-window Corvette Pro Mod earlier this week, and since then, the response in the community has been tremendous.

"We wanted to make a special point to say thank you to the troops that have been putting their lives on the line for us, because while it may be old hat to run a special car, I want to be sure to do my part and not let their sacrifice go unnoticed and unmentioned," Stivers said. "I've gotten a lot of calls about the car, and I know several people who have said they would be stopping by our pits at the track.

"This weekend, Quain is going to make sure that we have an extremely competitive car so we can represent the troops with the same force that they represent us around the world - with the very best we can offer. We've done a lot of testing, and I can assure that we'll be ready to race come Friday night.

"Racing at Indy is such an honor in and of itself, and there's nothing I'd like more than at the end of the event to be able to say we won the U.S. Nationals for the troops. Now that's an honor," Stivers said.

Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, continue with sessions at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and one final qualifier at 2 p.m. Sunday before the first round of eliminations Sunday evening at 5:10 p.m. The balance of eliminations will be run on Labor Day beginning at 11 a.m.
