Shields Comes Up Short in Norwalk (1 Viewer)

Duane Shields didn’t have quite the weekend he was looking for in Norwalk, Ohio but the PEAK team still won a round and stayed alive for Sunday’s eliminations at the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.

Duane qualified 9th with a 5.39 at 269 MPH to make it a classic injected nitro vs. blown alcohol match up in round one as Duane drew Marty Thacker. Duane’s injected nitro car grabbed the win over the blown alcohol car when Thacker blew a burst panel on the supercharger which allowed the PEAK dragster to sail by for the win. Duane stopped the clock with a 5.40 at 267 MPH to Thacker’s 5.49 at 222 MPH.

In round two, Duane took on Mia Tedesco. At the hit, Tedesco had a slight advantage off the starting line with an .055 to Duane’s close 0.061 so it was anyone’s race down the rest of the quarter mile course. At the finish line, Tedesco took the win as she rang up an impressive 5.27 at 275 MPH to Duane’s 5.38 at 272 MPH. Duane reflected on the second round loss “We are seeking more power and the car is not transitioning well. I had to pedal at 1.64 seconds into the run and you are not going to beat a 5.27 if you have to pedal. She was on a great run and it was low ET for the event. We just need to find the right mix and it might take a couple of races.”

Duane is looking forward to the next stop in Chicago. “This coming weekend is the Jegs All Star race and we are racing near PEAK’s headquarters and a lot of good things will be happening so we want to have the car ready to go.” Duane would like to recognize PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK, GRP and Brad Anderson Enterprises for their support in 2015.
