Semi-Final Finish Moves Janis Up Points Ladder

<P> (7-23-08) Grand Bend, ON, CA. – Right out of the box the Mike Janis Racing Team felt this was their weekend to shine. When it seemed as if no team had the Grand Bend surface figured out Janis came off the trailer for Friday's first session and laid down a jaw dropping 6.058 at over 235 miles per hour to take the provisional pole.
When Janis was asked by several well-known tuners in several classes, "Where did that come from?" Janis simply answered, "That's what she should be doing".
After Saturday's qualifying was interrupted by rain, Janis ended up third on the qualifying ladder. Janis' first round opponent was the number 11 qualifier, Mike Castellana. Castellana took a slight starting line advantage but could not hold off Janis and his Jan-Cen powered entry. Janis took the win with a5.14 at 235. In round two Janis was paired with ERD (Engine Research and Development) owner, Carl Spiering. Once again Janis' opponent took the advantage at the start but the trusty Jan-Cen prepared power plant of Janis was too much for Spiering.
"I got a little loose about 150 foot out and it cost us some time," said Janis. It was later noticed that on the run prior to Janis a huge chunk of rubber came off of the racing surface leaving a bald spot on the track. This caused Janis to loose lane choice to his semi-final opponent, Ed Hoover. Hoover made it to the semis by defeating Mark Nielsen and Jason Hamstra.
Knowing that he was in the "bad lane" Janis knew he would have to make up some time at the tree and he did with a .035 reaction time to Hoover's slower .083, but the Grand Bend surface proved to be the deciding factor in the match up as Janis' Dan Page built machine began to skate around and Janis was forced to click it off and hand Hoover the win.
"We knew this lane went away today," said lead crewmember Steve Hermann. "The rain from last night and early this morning changed the surface enough so that there was an obvious better lane and we weren't in it for this round. I still think we made some progress in the points and we'll be ready to give them hell in two weeks".
Next Up for the Mike Janis Racing team is the Torco Northern Nationals. The event will begin Friday, Aug. 1 with two pro qualifying sessions. Saturday there will be two professional qualifying sessions as well as the Torco Pro Mod Shootout. Janis is the top points earner for the shootout and will hold the number one spot entering the event. Final eliminations are slated for Sunday, Aug. 3, beginning at 11am.
