U.S. Army NHRA drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will start from the upper half of the field here Sunday in the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.
Schumacher, who handles the controls of the U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, took the fourth starting position while
Battling extreme heat and thin air conditions due to the altitude, Schumacher still maintained his standing from Friday's qualifying action.
He will face off with 13th-place qualifier, Morgan Lucas, in the first round of eliminations beginning at 12 noon MDT.
"Yet again, it was tough out there today," offered the Chicago native. "When it's hot like this (100 degrees plus) and then you factor in the altitude, it's a real challenge to get down the track."
The 2005 NHRA POWERade Top Fuel world champion is looking forward to defending his Bandimere Speedway event title from a year ago.
"Most definitely," he added. "I like this track a lot. I'm hopeful that we can get on a roll here and put another win on the board."
