SCELZI NO. 6 IN RAIN-SHORTENED HOUSTON QUALIFYING

BAYTOWN, Texas (March 31, 2007) - Gary Scelzi drove the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to No. 6 at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at
Houston Raceway Park in only two of the four scheduled qualifying sessions, as rain cancelled the other two.

Scelzi earned that spot by virtue of his 4.827-second elapsed time at 311.85mph in Friday night's session. His earlier pass produced a 4.929/302.48.

"Well, two for two is a good sign," said Scelzi, who did not qualify for last year's event here. "We'll see what happens tomorrow."

As for the long delay today before NHRA finally called off the remainder of qualifying, Scelzi said, "It was a long, long day and we wanted to try one more thing because the asphalt's green. We wanted to try something different today to see if it would work. And if it worked it would have been great for tomorrow. Now we're kind of between a rock and a hard spot.

"We're OK. We went down the track twice, we ended up sixth, we still have plenty in the bank, so we should be good tomorrow."

Scelzi faces Kenny Bernstein in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday, the same first-round match-up as in Gainesville, Fla., two weeks ago.
