Rickie Smith Needed Just A Little More Horsepower

Former U.S. Nationals Pro Modified Champion, Rickie Smith tried his luck this past weekend at “The Big Go” in Indy.

Running in another sanction for the 2007 season, Smith decided to try his hand at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indy since he was already going to root on his son, Pro Stock Motorcycle POWERade Points Leader Matt Smith.

Running at the top of the charts in 60 foot and 330 times every qualifying session, Smith missed the field due to horsepower issues. Smith ran with the best of them on the front half of the track, but suffered when it came to the back half.

“We nailed the setup every run,” said Smith. “We were fifth and sixth every pass this weekend in 60 feet and 330, but we just couldn’t hang in there in the back half. We needed a better motor. We would have loved to race on raceday, but we will root on Matt instead.”
