NHRA Postpones all Events for at least 30 days (1 Viewer)

*****MEDIA ALERT*****

NHRA POSTPONES SEASON FOR AT LEAST 30 DAYS

At this time, we are suspending all NHRA drag racing for 30 days in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

This suspension includes events at all NHRA-owned tracks and any NHRA-sanctioned events such as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. We intend at this time to resume the original schedule on April 17-19 in Houston, and continue thereafter, subject to developments in the interim. The spring Las Vegas event is postponed with new dates to be determined. Please go to LVMS.com for information if you have purchased tickets for the postponed event.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely, to listen to experts, and to be transparent as to when we believe we will be able to resume racing.

We made this decision with heavy hearts as we see the effects this pandemic is having on the world, the country and our NHRA family. We believe this is the right decision since social distancing and reducing gatherings of people has been recommended as one of the most effective ways to protect everyone in the long run.

We are all in this complicated, uncertain and rapidly changing situation together, and we encourage everyone to look out for each other. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. We encourage you to consult www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html for information and updates.

We look forward to the time when we all come together again in person to celebrate the most extreme sport on the planet. Though we will have to be physically apart we encourage you to stay connected with the community through NHRA.com, and all of our social channels, on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter. NHRA.TV and National DRAGSTER will continue to deliver drag racing content for you.

No real surprise here. All major sports are scheduled to be down for at least 30 days, most for longer than tbat. Everythi g that's a gathering point here in Ct is now pretty much shut down (bars, restaurants even the casinos) with no estimated reopening dates. I can only imagine how nuts people will be after 30 days of this. Stay safe everyone.

I'm nuts now and just started staying home. Well, I have U Tube drags and an Arnold Schwarenegger collection.....

No I don't have that one. Have all the Terminators (except the latest from 2019), original Total Recall, The 6th Day, Predator. Do have a bunch of Sci-Fi and even some Westerns, plus some drag racing DVD's. Lions all 3 DVDs in the series. Oh, jason Bourne... have all those. :)

My Clint Eastwood collection is on my viewing list.
I've got almost 1,400 movies and 30 TV series (all legit, no pirated copies) on my server. Plus boxes of 8MM film and VHS tapes to digitize along with regular scheduled chores.
Plus whatever else the wife can think of for me to do.

From around 1991 until the early 2000s I recorded every NHRA national event that was on The Nashville Network. Unfortunately they are all on VHS, and my VHS player is somewhere either in my 40’ storage container out back or in the attic in my shop.
I’ve kept the tapes in dark, dry, cool storage this whole time, so they should still be in good shape.
I may need to dig up the player just so I can hear Steve Evans and Dave McClelland.
There’s never been a better pair of announcers than those two.
Plus, the racing during that time was pretty darn good.

I also hAve lot I old racing on VHS. Bought a VHS player yesterday at my local Goodwill for 10 bucks - works perfectly!

I wonder what will happen to everyone's sponsorship. Do companies pay for X number of races? Will some companies pull their sponsorship altogether, because they need the revenue?

I have a lot of those on VHS too, plus you can find many of those events on YouTube. I can Dave McClelland now...."a panorama of speed, color, drama, and excitement."

I'm hoping Houston will be the comeback event - I have airline tickets to go to that race for the first time ever - but I'm a little doubtful.
