Memphis, TN (9/28/08): Rookie of the Year front-runner Mike Neff and the Old Spice team improved his chances of winning the $20,000 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award when they beat Jeff Arend in the first round and then trailered one of the hottest drivers on tour, Jack Beckman, on a hole-shot in the second round, 4.171 to a 4.173 respectively. IIn the semis Neff lost traction at 660 feet racing teammate Ashley Force.

As the Countdown passed the halfway mark all the John Force Racing Ford Mustangs picked up one spot in the standings. Mike Neff has the longest shot for the championship from his No. 9 slot but his Old Spice Ford Mustang showed sparks of brilliance qualifying No. 4 and laying down a solid 4.171 pass in the first round giving him lane choice by two thousandths over Jack Beckman in round two.

“Today was exciting. We qualified good and we made a couple of good runs. I felt confident racing Beckman. We had lane choice. I felt it was going to be a good tight race. Really the biggest thing was I wanted to be able to help out the team. I wanted to be able to help Robert, John and Ashley out,” said the newest addition to the JFR team. “We just wanted to do our part. That is what needs to happen. For one of these cars to win the championship the other ones are going to need to stop these other guys that are in contention. I knew it was a big run but I wasn’t all worked up. I just wanted to make sure we did our job.”
